The concept of the branch schools in the Archdiocese was initiated by the Most. Rev. Dr. Oswald Gomis, the Archbishop Emeritus of Colombo. St. Joseph’s College, Wattala, was in fact the first branch school of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10.
